Sand Casting Tolerances & Standards

Sand casting involves mold expansion and metal contraction. We apply ISO 2768-c (Coarse) as our standard for raw cast parts, and ISO 2768-v (Very Coarse) for castings over 1000mm. Typical as-cast tolerances range from ±0.5mm on smaller features to ±2.0mm on larger dimensions, depending on part size, material, and complexity. If critical surfaces require post-machining, mark them clearly on the drawing. We will allocate machining allowance and perform secondary operations in-house. Draft angles of 1-3° are typically required for pattern removal, shrinkage allowance varies by material and is adjusted accordingly, and machining allowance must be added to surfaces that will be post-machined.
